Meet some of our Instructors

Matthew Rivers - Road Rules Driving School founder and instructor
Matthew Rivers

Founder Matthew Rivers started driving at an early age on his parent’s farm. Driving professionally and doing so safely is in his DNA. Matthew has a degree in Business and Psychology from Bishop’s University and is a certified in-car and in-class driving instructor.
Most of Matthew’s work involves helping clients before the courts charged with impaired driving (alcohol, cannabis, opioids), road rage, stunt driving and driving on a suspended license.

Rehabilitation Instructor Janet Rivers
Janet Rivers

Founder Janet Rivers has a Masters degree in Education from the University of Toronto and a degree in political science from Bishop’s University.
She is a certified in-car and in-class driving instructor. Janet is a driver rehabilitation specialist, with a particular interest in those dealing with anxiety and brain injury.
She also assists those experiencing cognitive changes, and those with mobility issues requiring adaptive equipment.

Darren Brown

Darren lives in Peterborough with his fiancé Beth who works in digital marketing. Darren has owned and operated gas stations throughout the Eastern GTA, as well as his own snow plough business and bar and grill restaurant. He also works as a part-time Garth Brooks entertainer. Darren is a natural with the students, and they appreciate his calm manner and easy-going approach.

Wayne Reid

Wayne earned his bachelors degree and is originally from Jamaica where he also worked as a teacher. He has been a Pastor for 18 years and is a great people person with a very calm demeanour. He lives in Oshawa with his wife and 2 daughters.

Ken Rumak

Before joining Road Rules, Ken worked with Canada’s largest driving school for 3 years. Prior to that he drove private charter coach for 15 years throughout Ontario, Eastern Canada and the North Eastern United States for hockey teams and other clients.
